Successful Summer Reading
July 10th 2008 18:02
It wasn't until my children and I started visiting the library and the bookstores that I realized how many summer reading programs and contests were in place. What a great incentive to keep children reading throughout the summer! My children are involved in two:
1: The Barnes & Noble has a program where, if you successfully read and journal about eight books, you'll receive a coupon for a free eligible book.
2: The library has a program in place where children set a reading goal and, if it is achieved, they win a weekly prize. (So far, my children have won a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut and a free Gifford's ice cream cone.)
If you look around, there are many other programs out there with the same goal: to keep children reading throughout the summer. There are also many summer reading challenges online. I'll have informational websites available in my next post.
