One-on-One Homework Time
August 22nd 2008 18:06
My children have been responding very well to one-on-one homework time. (Note: In our home, we refer to anything related to education either in or out of school, as homework.) It’s part of our normal routine to work on educational projects, papers, and reading for between one and two hours per day.
Usually, all of us gather around the kitchen table or at the table on the deck. Working in that way is productive, but the kids (of course) do not receive that one-on-one individualized attention I know they need.
Last week, I worked with one of my children one-on-one and it was very positive. Today, I did the same with another of my children and it was the same very positive experience. Typically, they want to stop right away when we all work together as a group. Individually, they’re content working all day long.
It’s very interesting how they enjoy one way versus the other. They’re all very eager learners and I think they’re responding very well to the individual attention. I’m going to continue working in this capacity with them, and continue to learn from them as we go along. I learn so much from my children everyday.
Does your child prefer working with you one-on-one, or as part of a group?
