October Art With the Kids
October 1st 2008 13:09
It feels like a two pots of coffee kind of day. The rainy, gray weather always seems to do that for me. We woke to the sound of the pouring rain and, despite the fact that it has let up, the clouds remain . . . threatening more showers in minutes or hours.
The kids and I are starting our month of daily art making today. I’ll be working on some pieces on my own, as well as some projects with them. We’ve started making signatures for an art journal, and we’re going to be making a tea stained book inspired by the Dragonology and Fairyopolis books.
We’re also going to be working on some new methods with new media. They love what they already know, but I would like to expose them to new ways of creating. I might introduce some painting techniques or some altered book techniques. I love seeing their minds work and the inspiration flowing, so this is going to be a very exciting month. I’ll be blogging our progress.
I want to see my nephew getting into some creative projects as well. He has a lot on his mind, so I might encourage some writing (as much as he says he hates doing it, I think it’ll be a great way to channel some of these feelings he’s experiencing). I’d also love to see him involved in our daily art making. I don’t know if he’d like the act of creating because he’s never really been exposed to anything like this, but I think he’d like helping the kids with squirting paint, or making sure they’re staying “in the lines” so to speak. He’s an important part of this family and, in any way I can, I’m going to show him how much he’s needed and wanted around here.
