Mommy, You’re STILL Sick?
August 7th 2008 23:01
I’ve been fighting a weird eye infection, allergy, pink eye, or conjunctivitis type thing since Saturday. These means, of course, that I couldn’t work my outside of the house job Sunday or complete our typical family routine Monday. Today was the first day I’ve felt somewhat normal, but this has been very difficult for my children to comprehend.
Mommy’s sick? What? Are you kidding me? It’s library day, she can’t be sick! We need groceries! How are we going to eat? And the terror began to ensue as I tried to keep this place in some semblance of order. It was a challenge.
Even though my children fight me about writing for one reason or another, they still love their trips to the library. It was strange for them not to get rolling after breakfast and morning chores were finished. They couldn’t understand why I was still in my jimmies and getting a pillow to camp out on the couch with.
What do you do when your kids are still expecting their regular schedule or routines to happen on your “sick day?” Do you try to run on half-empty and continue on the best that you can? Or, do you throw in the towel and explain to them that there are times when Mommy really needs to recuperate?
