Bennigan's Shennanigans

November 2nd 2006 13:09

Bennigan's is a restaurant chain here in America. They are an "Irish" grill and tavern. What I would like to know is, why isn't there any Irish food on the menu? And what's with all the crap all over the walls? Bennigan's has dumb pictures, and random items all over the walls and ceiling. You can find things like a baseball bat to a kid's tricycle. Their menu is rather hilarious, seeing as they claim to be Irish.

There is an appetizer called Irish Haystack. It is a bunch of deep fried onions on a plate. There is a seafood dish called Flaherty's fish. It is pan-seared tilapia with pesto. I had no idea tilapia came from Ireland. They also serve Asiago chicken pasta... Those crazy Italian, I mean Irish! For dessert you can have Chocolate Lava cake or Creme BruLee cheesecake. I recently visited the Bennigan's web site. They are promoting their new Guinness glazed meals. I guess if I pour Guinness all over stir fry, that makes it Irish.

One St. Patrick's day, my family and I decided to try Bennigan's. We were under false pretenses, under the delusion that we would be able to order sheppard's pie. Apon entry, they were blaring hip hop music. That snoop dog, we always new he was an Irishmen. The bartenders could not poor a Guinness correctly, and my son recieved a cute shamrock cookie with his cheeseburger. The customer service was terrible. And like my father always says, "restaruants with crap all over the place are trying to distract you from their terrible food."

On another note, I also wonder why almost everything on the menu over at Applebee's has bacon on it?! I guess bacon is a new garnish.

You ate at o'Benniganbee! That would be O'Charleys, Applebees, and Bennigans. They HAVE to be owned by the same companies. They all look alike and have almost identical menus.

I haven't eaten at a place like that in three years. Blech!

I went to Ireland last March and had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed the food there.

I have had good and bad experiences with Bennigans. My problem is mainly with the atmosphere of the place for sure, but the food is pretty good, and it helps when you know and get to talk with your chef which I have. His name was Chipper and he made the irish potroast a real treat, best potroast I've had from a restaurant yet. I like it so much that I only eat there when he's working.
