I'm Afraid of My Mailman....
May 21st 2010 20:52
I think our mailman doesn't like us anymore. Now, I carefully make my move to get our mail. I wait until he's around the corner of our neighborhood. I will even wait until I see his truck go by.
So, it all started with a piece of mail we received that wasn't ours. It was for a neighbor up the block next to us. I told my husband to put it in his mailbox, because it was a bill and I thought he would need it right away. So what does he do? He writes, in red mind you, "wrong address...." on it and puts it back in our box. I told him he shouldn't do that because, A: it was lazy and B: the red ink and large writing looked a little harsh. So, that day when I pick up the mail, the mailman left a nice little note saying "Please don't write on someone else's mail!". Yes, he used an exclamation point. That little exclamation point set it off. When I showed the note to my husband that night, he was mad. He said that the mailman was the one who made the mistake in the first place and he should do his job and correct it. I told him that he is correct, but the mailman might of been a little offended by his "tone". To top it off, I have seen like 3 different mail people since and have no idea if it was our regular dude or someone filling in for him.

Dear Mr/Ms. Mail-person,
I don't want to fight. I want to make peace. I feel like there is this distance between us now. I long for the days when we would wave at each other and sometimes leave candy for you at Christmas (ok, I only really did that once). I'm sorry for my husband's actions. He was upset and yes, a little lazy. Yes, we already forgave you for that time when we came home and you were blocking our driveway. While you sat in the shade, I nicely waited, with my blinker on, for you to move. I understand your job is thank-less sometimes and I have heard dogs are not your friends sometimes. But, please don't take it out on me. I love going out to our black mailbox to see what treasures you have delivered for us that day. I have loved getting the mail ever since I was a little girl. I don't want to be afraid of you. I want to make you the highlight of my day again.
