Dieting Tips?
November 9th 2006 03:41
In the past 5 months I have lost 50lbs. I have a long way to go, but I thought I'd share some tips that have helped me along the way. If anyone else has any tips or success stories, I would love to hear them!
* Google a calorie calculator, this will tell you how many calories you can have and steadily lose weight.
*Stop making excuses!!! I'ts not that old injury, you CAN make time, it's not too hard! Stop being lazy! Wage a mental war with yourself and win!
*Look in the mirror.... Naked!
*Excersizing naked helps too, you feel really jiggly and want to keep working.
*No more soda!!!
*Cleaning your house is a great workout!
*Eat less, watch those portion sizes!
Losing weight is not rocket science. There is no miracle wrapped up in a pill or shake. Get real with those dumb infomercials. This is common sense, moving makes you burn calories, burning calories makes you lose weight.. Here are some foods that have helped me, tremendously:
hummus, organic tortilla chips, salsa, baked sweet potatoes. Crystal light has gotten me through some rough times also. Hopefully, some of these tips might be useful to you! Never give up, never lose hope!

I lost 12 kg in 15 months. For me, it was a great achievement but it was also hard work; I gave up weekends to go and work out at the gym and I completely changed my eating habits. Exercise has been my best friend for 2 years now and I’m not going to let that change.
A few tips that have worked for me:
1. Exercise: walking, running, weight lifting and going to the gym regularly. Sometimes I would come home from work feeling so tired that my greatest wish was to forget all about it and curl up in bed with a good book. There were days when I had to force myself to get out of the house. Once I was out the door, it became easier. A very important thing: no matter how tired you are, there is strength left in you still. A lot, you just don’t know it yet.
2. Diet. I hate the very word and was never able to follow one for more than a few days. A radical change is needed in order to have a healthy body, lose weight and keep it off. Most of us know the rules when it comes to food but very few choose to follow them. Things to cross out: junk food; sweets, in all shapes: cookies, soda, sugar, ice-cream and the like. Things I ate without looking at the portion size: raw fruits and vegetables.
3. All you need in order to lose weight is in you. Don’t let anybody else tell you different. Pills, tea and miraculous concoctions should be thrown out the window, you don’t need them, you can do it by yourself.
4. Never give up. No matter how hard it is and how frustrated you feel, never ever give up. Take breaks if you have to, eat that chocolate from time to time but never give up on exercise and good food.
I went to the gym today, I forced myself. The conversation I had with my husband helped a lot, he was the one who encouraged me, reminding me not to give up. And I could have kicked myself when I came back home, because he was right, of course. Exercising felt so good, unbelievable good and the thing is, I know that, I know how good I feel every time after going to the gym, and I mean every time, not just some days. Sounds incredible, doesn’t it?
This is definitely a lifetime journey for me. I’m glad I discovered the path. All I need to do now is follow it.
Congratulations, Kristen, it seems like we are walking in the same direction. May we have a pleasant journey!

A few years ago I lost 24 kg and found that a food diary really helped me stay on track. I wrote down most of what I ate, the calorie value of the food and the fat content and made sure I stuck to my goal each day. After a week or so filling in the diary became really easy and didn't take up much time or effort.
Another point I'd like to make is that most people misuse the word 'diet'. A diet IS a way of life and describes everyone's eating plan whether they are trying to lose weight or not. A Diet shouldn't be thought of as a restricted eating plan, otherwise you can grow to resent it.
Keep up the great work ... it's all worth it in the end.
