Checklists
July 23rd 2008 15:01
I had a lot of plans for the kids and I over summer vacation. I used to keep checklists for work, school, housework, and activities for the kids. These lists used to be all over the place and, one way or another, everything would be completed.
I heard a lot of people saying the same thing last year, "Jenn, you really should tone your lists down to three or four things. Your lists are too overwhelming."
Some days, this was true and I did feel very overwhelmed. Most days, though, these lists were exactly what his household needed to run smoothly. So, why did I stop? The comments continued and, rather than following my instincts, I followed this advice.
I didn't work for us. We've been far less productive than we typically are. I've forgotten about simple tasks, I've slacked off on our summer learning program, and field trips haven't been happening as often as I thought hey would.
The solution: follow MY instincts and do what's right for US.

Everyone is different. I know lists don't really help me because I forget to check them or maintain them but if I keep a running tab in my head of things to get done more gets done.
