TV Viewing.... (LINK)

Our Views on Viewing

We have always received slack from our peers about how we approach TV viewing in our household. We're very particular about what our children watch for very particular reasons. I won't get into it here, but there are shows they just can't watch plain and simple.

I found an excellent resource to help us in our defense. Not that our decisions should be defended, mind you, but it's much easier than having the same arguments with other adults over and over again. Which is strange because our children don't protest at all . . . just these adults . . . interesting. Anyway, here's the resource:

What are your TV viewing thoughts and decisions? Our children usually watch one hour or less per day (some days, the TV doesn't go on at all because they're having too much fun doing something else to notice). Do you receive a lot of flack from your peers about your decisions or the basis of your decisions?

Where I'm Printing From Today

Where I'm Printing Today
Websites With Free Printables

I try to set aside a little time during each work day for finding and printing worksheets to add to our summer learning workbooks. Some days I find more than I have time to print, like today! Here's where I'm looking today:

1: abcteach
2: Printable, Free Worksheets for Teachers
3: School Express

I think if I had enough time, paper, and printer ink I'd be printing one of everything. Okay, maybe not that many . . . but close. I'll be adding more links as I find them from day to day. Enjoy!

Our Own Workbooks

Summer Learning Workbooks
Make Your Own Workbook

I have a terrible time finding workbooks that cater to the ages of our children without buying a lot of them. We have a six, seven, and eight year old (two boys, and one girl) with interests and abilities all over the spectrum. What works for one child is very boring for the other and so on.

Rather than continuing to beat my head against my desk, I decided to create our own summer learning workbooks this year. I did a simple search using google.com and found dozens of free printable worksheets by age group. I saved several on to my computer (I knew they'd want to do these particular worksheets more than once) and I printed out several.

My plan is to find several for each day we're going to work on "homework" this summer. That way, they'll have something different to do during each session (as well as plenty of repeats for whatever ones interest them). I'm going to bind them up at the copy center with journal pages. When we're finished, we'll have a great set of memories preserved!

Summer Learning Program

Summer Learning Program
Avoiding Summer Brain Drain

Summer around here is typically very busy. We've always tried to keep the kids interested, engaged, and educated to ward off boredom and prevent brain drain. This year, because the kids are a bit older, we're starting a summer learning program.
